What Our School Partners say

Winthrop Primary School

It was great to see the return of the GKA students this year to our school! The opportunities for both students to foster new friendships and cultural awareness have been a valued experience for all. Thank you again, GOLD Team for this fantastic opportunity!

Darryl Deacon – HaSS Teacher – Duncraig SHS

The educational experience afforded is exceptional. The quality of the students selected from Japan to attend is ideal. Gold Educational Tours are thoroughly professional. Their staff are fantastic and always participate and help out in the program. Gold Educational Tours are brilliant in terms of their support and response to all needs, the program is well resourced and funded and achieves significant academic, social and emotional outcomes. It is amazing to see the relationships and bonding develop between our students and the Japanese students. Our school has elected to integrate this program into our curriculum structures as it positively benefits our school community. It's the right amount of time and the right season for an incursion in our school.

Craig Anderson – Principal – Mosman Park PS

Our students thoroughly enjoyed hosting our new friends from Gunma Kokusai Academy. Lifelong friendships and connections were made and what our students learnt about Japanese language and culture in the 7-day visit could not have been achieved in a year of classroom lessons. We look forward to making Gold Educational Tours an annual fixture on our school calendar.

Kerri Drage – Associate Principal – Carine HS

We were thrilled to have the students. The Arts team were amazing and the kids had a great time! Fantastic result.

Cathy Baron – Principal – Lakeland SHS

The Gold team were very organised and supportive of the Japanese student, staff as well as our school staff. A memorable experience for all involved.

Ruth Tadeishi – Japanese Teacher – Kent St SHS

The Gold Exchange Program has helped the Kent Street students experience real life and personal encounters with Japan. Students have become more confident using Japanese and more engaged in Japanese classes. The students have secured life-long friendships and connections with Japan.

FAQs

How long do Japanese students stay at our school?

The visits typically range from one to five days, with key visit periods during Term 1 (February – March), Term 3 (July – August), and Term 4 (October – December).

Gold Educational Tours provides an on-site bilingual coordinator to support students, on-site teachers, and staff during the entire visit. They manage all the planning and visit logistics, removing uncertainty, workload, and stress from the school.

Provide a safe and welcoming environment for the visiting students. The host school’s responsibilities include arranging a school buddy for each Japanese student, providing a timetable for the duration of the visit, arranging a small farewell gathering, and sharing Gold’s invitation to host with the school community.

The host family’s responsibilities include providing a friendly home environment, involving the Japanese students in their family routine, providing meals and accommodation, and arranging transportation to and from school.

Each Japanese student is assigned a school buddy from the host school. The role of the school buddy is likely to involve accompanying the Japanese students throughout the school day, helping them navigate the campus, and providing a friendly face to enhance their cultural immersion experience.

On average, schools receive $60 per Japanese student per day of the program. From 2012 to 2024, Gold Educational Tours provided over $1.4 million in funding to participating schools.
