Japan Kansai Student Tour 2025

Tour Dates: Sunday September 28th - Wednesday October 8th

Tour Cost: $6,750 per participant (based on 20 participants)(Based on current exchange rate of $1 AUD = 103 Japanese Yen)

Eligibility: 14-18 years (Host families will be given priority)

Duration: 11 days / 10 nights

Set off on an 11-day journey that immerses you in all aspects of Japan.

Explore the iconic cities of Kyoto and Osaka, blending classical charm with modern vibrancy. Experience the serene beauty of Kyotango’s traditional countryside and discover the resilience of Hiroshima, a city reborn from tragedy. Walk through history in Himeji and enjoy the sights of Kobe. This is more than a sightseeing trip—it’s an opportunity to engage with Japan’s rich traditions, learn from its history and connect with its people. You’ll leave this trip with meaningful insights, lifelong memories and a new perspective on the world.

Transport & Accommodation

Transport:

  • Return Economy Airfare (Singapore Airlines) and Taxes & Charges
  • All transport for itinerary including express train fares, private bus in Kyotango and IC card for local trains and subways

Accommodation:

  • 3 nights accommodation in Osaka
  • 3 night minshuku in Kyotango
  • 2 nights accommodation in Kyoto
  • 2 nights accommodation in Hiroshima

Meals

  • Breakfast & some Dinners
  • Participants to purchase their own lunches

Admission Fees & School Program

Admission Fees:

  • Admissions for all sightseeing and activities as stated on the itinerary
Note: chaperones may amend the itinerary and apply cost to another admission/service

School Program:

  • Day visit to a local school in Kyotango with peer to peer class activities

Chaperones & Others

Chaperones:

  • Two GOLD staff to accompany the students inclusive of accommodation, transport and some meals.

Other:

  • Application documents
  • Pre-departure information package for participants including travel documents and a detailed information booklet containing local and cultural information.
Note: The chaperones are responsible for facilitating the itinerary. They may choose to alter aspects of the itinerary (like sightseeing locations) during the trip and redistribute allocated funds as necessary.

What’s Not Included

The cost does not include:

  • Travel insurance
  • Personal spending money
  • Travel e-sim

Participants are required to arrange an e-sim for the entire duration of the tour. This allows Gold chaperones to maintain contact and locate participants at all times, ensuring everyone’s safety.

Participants should be supplied with personal spending money for items of expenditure not otherwise met by the tour cost. This money allows for purchase of lunch, snacks, drinks and other unforeseen costs.

Leading up to the tour, participants will be invited to join two workshops which will be a great opportunity to get to know one another and familiarise yourselves with the plans for the trip.

3-night Minshuku stay

During the tour, students will have the opportunity to stay in an authentic traditional Japanese family-run Minshuku in Kyotango whereby they will get to experience what it’s like to live like the local Japanese people do.

Day Visit to Local School in Kyotango

Participants will have the opportunity to visit a local Japanese high school in Kyotango for an immersive educational day visit where they will participate in class activities and engage with Japanese students and peers.

Who will accompany my child?

Students will be accompanied by Miss Mio Saito (Tour Coordinator) and Miss Tiffany Tennent (Student experiences and Youth Leader Manager).

Participants are required to organise their own travel insurance.

Successful applicants must submit a non-refundable deposit of $1,500 AUD by March 1st, 2025.

50% of the remaining balance ($2,625 AUD) is due by May 1st, 2025.

The final payment of $2,625 AUD is due no later than July 1st, 2025.

Tour Information

Day 2

Visit the Osaka Cup museum before a trip to Banpaku park for shopping and lunch. In the evening we'll explore the bustling streets of Dotonbori for dinner.

Day 3

Start with a visit to the historical landmark Osaka Castle followed by a museum experience. After lunch local students will take you on a personal tour of their favourites spots in Osaka.

Day 4

Travel together to the beautiful countryside town of Kyotango where we check into our minshuku. After settling in we'll enjoy some sun at Kotohikihama beach before heading for dinner.

Day 5

Spend the day living like a Japanese student at a local school in Kyotango.

Day 6

Enjoy a day of various cultural activities highlighting the traditions and heritage of Kyotango before visiting one of the towns onsens.

Day 7

Travel from Kyotango to the bamboo forrest of Arashiyama before heading to the heart of Kyoto to visit the manga museum.

Day 8

In the morning we'll explore the Kyoto imperial palace and gardens before travelling to a hidden location in the afternoon.

Day 9

After some souvenir shopping at Kyoto station in the morning we'll set off for Hiroshima where we'll visit Orizuru tower, Shukkeien Gardens before finishing the evening with shopping in downtown Hiroshima.

Day 10

We'll spend the morning learning about the history of Hiroshima through the Hiroshima peace park, museum and talks with local Hiroshima students. After lunch we'll travel together to a hidden location for the afternoon.

Day 11

Our final day starts by leaving Hiroshima and stopping in at Himeji to visit Kokoen and Himeji castle. After lunch we'll continue along to Kobe where we'll do some last minute souvenir shopping, walk down to Ijinkan and visit the famous Chinatown for dinner. At night we'll head to Kansai airport where we'll catch our departing flight back to Perth!
